Siddharth is only eight months old. His parents are Shivani and Rahul, and he resides in Taitri Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. Life must have indeed been full of joy and laughter in his early months; little did he know that before him lay a critical heart condition-Large Perimembranous Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). This had caused a left to right shunt with a peak gradient of 22mmHg, thereby increasing pulmonary blood flow and an extreme risk to his health. Life saving VSD surgical closure would cost Rs. 3.5 lakhs.
Rahul is a laborer who earns just to support his family comprising seven members. He can barely manage the surgery, as he has no savings in his kitty. His family had run out of money and, in despair, had lost all hopes for their son's survival when all avenues seemed to be shut. They had been referred to the Child Heart Foundation (CHF) by Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi.
Through the Hridaan Program of CHF and their CSR partner, IRFC (Indian Railway Finance Corporation), Siddharth's surgery was facilitated. The team quickly placed Siddharth in the queue for the required VSD closure surgery at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Jasola.
Today, Siddharth is recuperating well and his parents are full of hope. And now, with the timely assistance of CHF and IRFC, their little boy is on his way to a healthier future and now they have something to look out for-the dawn of brighter days.
