At just 1.5 years into life, Kashish already faced so much health adversity in his young life. Born to Mohd. Shaiyar and Sahida in the small town of Sunari, Tawru, Nuh, Haryana, little Kashish was diagnosed with having a moderate-sized Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). Characterized by a 3mm left-to-right shunt and mild mitral regurgitation, little Kashish needed an urgent PDA device closure. The procedure, that would be extremely vital for his survival, cost Rs. 2 lakhs-an amount far beyond what the family could afford.
The head of the family, Mohd. Shaiyar, is a first-generation lawyer who recently graduated. He is the only earning member of his small family of five members. Despite a meager household income of Rs. 20,000 and four dependents, it has been very challenging for the family to collect the demanded sum. The family was referred to by Al. Afia Hospital, Nuh, Haryana. They contacted the Child Heart Foundation (CHF) requesting assistance for Kashish's surgery.
Courtesy of Hridaan Program under CHF and CSR support by IRFC, Indian Railway Finance Corporation, Kashish's family could access this much-needed financial assistance. On August 1, 2024, Kashish was admitted at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Jasola. There, after a little period of recovery, on August 3, 2024, the device closure procedure of PDA was done.
Today, young Kashish is on the road to recovery; relief and hope have indeed finally dawned on her family. Her parents are particularly grateful for the timely support they received from CHF and IRFC that ensured their much cherished daughter got a chance to grow healthy and strong.
