The spark of hope in the family is five-month-old Zainab Fatima. Born to Nafish Alam and Tabassum Khatun in Prem Nagar, North West Delhi, Zainab was diagnosed with a Large Perimembranous Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). This left-to-right shunt condition with a gradient of 10 mmHg is an indication for immediate VSD closure procedure. Her family was under a grave crisis to incur an estimated cost of Rs. 3.5 lakhs.
Nafish is a mechanic and by no means earns big money. She has a family of seven members, out of whom six depend on her. No money could be arranged for the necessary surgery for Zainab. They all seemed to lose hope. The family was referred from Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Delhi. They approached the Child Heart Foundation (CHF).
It was because of CHF's Hridaan Program with much-needed support from her CSR partner IRFC (Indian Railway Finance Corporation) that support came to Zainab's family when they needed it the most. She was admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Jasola on 24 July 2024.
Zainab underwent surgery on July 25 and she spent some days in the ward after that. She was discharged on 31st July 2024, which has brought quite a relief to the family. Today, Zainab is doing well and her parents thanked the Child Heart Foundation and IRFC for the aid received. With a healthy heart, Zainab Fatima feels a better future since it presents hope for her family and society as well.
