Ayush Das was a 5-month-old boy from Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. Hardly when he was born, a heart condition overshadowed the delight of his family. He was diagnosed to have a moderate Ventricular Septal Defect showing a peak gradient of 40 mmHg. There was an imperative need for VSD closure surgery. The RVOT gradient measured 30 mmHg, along with dilated left atrium and ventricle. This surgery, crucial for Ayush to survive, would cost him a whopping Rs. 3.5 lakhs.
With six people dependent on his income and just two earning members-the parents-and no saving of more than Rs. 5,000, Ayush's parents couldn't think of seeing their son through this surgery. The family was referred to by North Bengal Medical College.
Ayush, under the Hridaan Program, with the support of their CSR partner IRFC, Indian Railway Finance Corporation, CHF ensured that life-saving surgery was given to Ayush. Ayush was admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Jasola, on May 26, 2024, and had his surgery done on the same day and was subsequently discharged on June 2, 2024.
Today, Ayush is on the way to recovery and smiles for his family. His parents would be eternally thankful to Child Heart Foundation and IRFC for the new lease of life they have given them to their son.
