Support a Child

2025-2026

Pt. Shivani

Shivani’s story is a powerful reminder of how timely support and community care can transform a family’s future.

Shivani lives in a small town in Uttar Pradesh with her parents and four siblings. Her father works as a farmer, and the family depends on limited income to make ends meet. They live a simple life with basic necessities, and for years, Shivani was a healthy, happy child with no signs of illness.

But in 2021, everything changed suddenly.

Shivani began experiencing severe chest pain and would faint without warning. Alarmed, her family rushed her to a local doctor, but the cause remained unclear. She was given medicines and injections that provided temporary relief, but her condition did not improve. She continued to suffer from recurring issues like diarrhea and unstable blood pressure.

Desperate for answers, her family consulted multiple doctors. It was during one such visit with Dr. Piya Sahni that a congenital heart disease (CHD) was suspected, and Shivani was referred to a higher center. However, due to a lack of proper attention there, the family continued their search for the right diagnosis.

Eventually, they reached Shekhar Sarraj Memorial Hospital, where an echocardiography was performed. The results revealed the real cause—Shivani had been living with Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), a hole between the upper chambers of her heart. She was then referred to Apollo Hospital, Delhi, for further treatment.

The diagnosis brought clarity—but also fear. Shivani urgently needed surgery, and the cost was far beyond what her family could afford.

Just when hope seemed to be fading, it arrived through a kind connection. An acquaintance working at Apollo Hospital guided them to the Child Heart Foundation.

Stepping in at the right time, the foundation extended its support. On 16th July 2025, Shivani was admitted for surgery. With the generous support of ABC, her procedure was successfully completed.

Today, Shivani has been given a new lease on life.

Her journey is not just about survival—it is about the power of early diagnosis, the strength of a determined family, and the life-changing impact of timely support.
