Baby Nishtha’s Journey: From Uncertainty to Hope

Baby of Nishtha Thakur was born on 29th December 2024 in Delhi to Mrs. Mritiyasana and Mr. Mohit. Even before her birth, the family was living with concern, as doctors had suspected a congenital heart defect (CHD) during the prenatal period.

At just two months old, Nishtha began showing alarming symptoms—rapid breathing, difficulty in feeding, and poor weight gain. Deeply worried, her parents sought immediate medical help. An echocardiogram revealed a serious condition: Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) along with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). Doctors advised a VSD device closure as part of her treatment plan and referred the family to Fortis Hospital.

However, the family faced a major challenge.

With their only source of income being a modest pension, the cost of treatment was far beyond what they could afford. As Nishtha’s condition continued to worsen, the family found themselves running out of options.

A Ray of Hope

Hope arrived through a heartfelt connection. The family learned about the Child Heart Foundation (CHF) and Dr. Vikas Kohli through another child, Kesvi, who had successfully recovered with their support. Encouraged by this, they approached Balakram Hospital, where Dr. Kohli carefully evaluated Nishtha and confirmed the urgency of her treatment.

After completing the necessary documentation, Baby of Nishtha was registered under the Hridaan Program, an initiative by CHF to support children from financially constrained families.

With generous support from Mankind Pharma and CHF, Baby of Nishtha was admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital on 13th August 2025.

On 14th August 2025, she successfully underwent Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) device closure surgery, performed by an expert team of pediatric cardiac surgeons.

Her recovery was smooth, and she was soon discharged in stable condition.

Today, Baby of Nishtha is on her path to a healthier future—her journey standing as a powerful example of how timely intervention and compassionate support can save lives.

Her story reminds us that even in the face of uncertainty, hope can find its way—and change everything.
