Born on 11th April 2025 in Siliguri, West Bengal, Mohammad Nashwan entered the world through a normal delivery at Heritage Hospital. But even before his first cry, his parents carried a heavy concern—during a prenatal ultrasound, doctors had suspected a Congenital Heart Defect (CHD).
Soon after birth, Nashwan developed jaundice and had to be kept in an incubator for observation. Once discharged, his family hoped the worst was behind them. But within days, Nashwan began showing signs of illness, leaving his parents deeply worried.
They rushed him to Arogya Niketan Hospital, where further investigations were carried out. An echocardiogram confirmed their fears—Nashwan was diagnosed with a complex heart condition: Inlet Muscular Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) with perimembranous extension.
Despite medications and multiple follow-ups, his condition showed little improvement. The doctors advised that surgery was now the only option.
A Critical Turning Point
Determined to save their child, Nashwan’s family consulted Dr. Vikas Kohli, a senior pediatric cardiologist. After carefully reviewing his condition, Dr. Kohli confirmed that open-heart surgery was essential and referred the family to the Child Heart Foundation (CHF) for support.
With CHF’s guidance, the family undertook a long journey from Siliguri to Delhi on 10th September 2025—holding onto hope for their little boy.
Nashwan was admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital the very next day.
The Life-Saving Surgery
On 12th September 2025, Nashwan bravely underwent VSD closure with tricuspid valve repair, a major open-heart surgery performed by a skilled team of doctors. The procedure was made possible with the generous support of Mankind Pharma and the Child Heart Foundation.
The surgery was successful.
After a week of intensive post-operative care, Nashwan was discharged on 18th September—his tiny heart now beating stronger than ever.
A New Beginning
Today, Nashwan is recovering well, surrounded by the love and care of his family. He continues regular follow-ups, steadily moving toward a healthy and happy childhood.
His journey is a powerful reminder that even the smallest hearts can show the greatest courage—and with timely support, every heartbeat can be given a second chance.
