From Uncertainty to Hope: A Newborn’s Fight for Life
The birth of a child is usually a moment of joy, but for Ms. Muskan and her family, it was also filled with anxiety and emotional strain. Even before their baby was born, doctors had diagnosed a serious Congenital Heart Defect (CHD), preparing the family for a difficult journey ahead.
Each day of the pregnancy was filled with worry, as they braced themselves for the challenges to come.
A Critical Beginning
The baby was delivered through a normal vaginal delivery at Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya. Soon after birth, he showed signs of cyanosis—a bluish discoloration indicating low oxygen levels. Recognizing the urgency, the medical team immediately shifted him to the NICU for stabilization and further evaluation.
Detailed investigations confirmed a life-threatening condition: Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA).
As an emergency life-saving measure, doctors performed a Balloon Atrial Septostomy to improve oxygenation. However, the condition required a complex and definitive procedure—an Arterial Switch Operation (ASO)—which could only be performed at an advanced pediatric cardiac center.
A Ray of Hope
After discussions with the medical team and Dr. Vikas Kohli, the baby was referred to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital with the support of the Child Heart Foundation (CHF).
For the parents, this was an incredibly difficult time. Alongside the emotional trauma of seeing their newborn struggle, they were also burdened by the fear of unaffordable medical expenses.
At this critical moment, CHF stepped in and assured the family that the cost of treatment would be taken care of—bringing much-needed relief and hope.
The Life-Saving Surgery
On 1st December 2025, the baby underwent the Arterial Switch Operation (ASO) at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital.
The surgery was successfully performed by a team of expert pediatric cardiac specialists.
Following the procedure, the baby was closely monitored and showed steady improvement.
A New Beginning
Today, the baby is on the path to recovery—his journey transformed from uncertainty to hope.
