Fatima’s Journey: A Newborn’s Fight for Life

Fatima, baby of Alia, was diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) during the fetal stage. During a Level II ultrasound in the eighth month of pregnancy, doctors suspected a heart condition and advised the family to get an echocardiography done immediately after birth.

She was born on 26th October 2025 at Kasturba Hospital. Soon after birth, her oxygen levels were low, and she had to be shifted to the NICU for three days. As days passed, Fatima began showing concerning symptoms—bluish discoloration of lips, difficulty in feeding, weakness, and fatigue.

A Critical Diagnosis

Upon detailed evaluation, Fatima was diagnosed with a complex heart condition that required specialized cardiac care. Her case was referred to the Child Heart Foundation (CHF), where Dr. Vikas Kohli examined her and conducted another echocardiography.

After careful assessment, doctors recommended open-heart surgery as the best course of treatment.

For her parents, this was a devastating moment. Coming from a modest background in East Delhi, arranging funds for such a major surgery felt nearly impossible. Yet, they held on to hope.

A Ray of Hope

With the support of the Child Heart Foundation and Mankind Pharma, Fatima was given a chance at life.

On 5th January 2026, at just 13 days old, she underwent a successful open-heart surgery at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, performed by a skilled team of pediatric cardiac specialists.

A New Beginning

Following the surgery, Fatima showed encouraging signs of recovery. Her oxygen levels improved, the bluish discoloration reduced, and her feeding gradually became normal. With each passing day, she is gaining strength.

Today, her parents are filled with gratitude and hope as they see their little one smile again.

Fatima’s journey is not just about a successful surgery—it is a story of courage, faith, and the power of timely support.

With heartfelt thanks, the family expresses deep gratitude to the doctors, donors, Mankind Pharma, and the Child Heart Foundation for standing by them during their most difficult time and giving their daughter a second chance at life.
