Life-Saving Treatment for D-TGA
For Anju and her family, the joy of welcoming their newborn quickly turned into fear when, just hours after birth at Hopewell Hospital, an echocardiography revealed a serious congenital heart defect.
The baby was diagnosed with D-Transposition of the Great Arteries (D-TGA), a critical congenital heart defect in which the two main arteries carrying blood from the heart are switched. The condition required urgent specialized cardiac treatment.
For the family, there was little time to prepare for what came next.
A Family Facing an Unexpected Crisis
The baby’s father works as a plumber and supports his family with limited financial resources. Learning that his newborn needed urgent heart surgery was devastating.
The family wanted to do everything possible to save their baby, but the cost of specialized cardiac treatment was far beyond what they could afford.
With their newborn needing urgent care, the family approached Child Heart Foundation (CHF) for support.
Timely Support When Every Moment Mattered
Understanding the urgency of the baby’s condition, Child Heart Foundation helped facilitate the treatment process and arranged crucial financial support for the surgery.
With the support of Child Heart Foundation and the CSR support of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the baby received the specialized cardiac care needed.
On 7 November 2025, the baby successfully underwent life-saving heart surgery at Marengo Asia Hospital.
The successful surgery brought immense relief and renewed hope to the entire family.
A New Beginning for a Little Heart
Following treatment and recovery, the baby was discharged from the hospital and returned home with the family.
For Anju and her family, the journey from discovering a critical heart defect just hours after birth to taking their baby home after successful treatment is one they will never forget.
Their story highlights why early detection and timely treatment of critical congenital heart defects can be so important.
