Since toddlerhood, Mafiya had shown concerning signs. She was growing more slowly than expected and often experienced rapid breathing. Her family knew something was not right, but with limited resources and many responsibilities, accessing specialized medical care was extremely difficult.
For years, the underlying cause of Mafiya’s symptoms remained undiagnosed.
It was not until she was 13 years old that her journey took an important turn.
A Medical Camp That Changed Everything
During a medical screening conducted through the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), healthcare professionals identified Mafiya as a child with a suspected congenital heart defect (CHD).
She was referred to Child Heart Foundation (CHF) for further evaluation and specialized pediatric cardiac care.
For a family that had lived with uncertainty for years, the referral finally offered a path toward understanding what was affecting their daughter’s health.
An Echocardiogram Provided the Answer
Following the referral, Mafiya underwent an echocardiogram, which confirmed that she had a heart condition requiring surgical treatment.
The diagnosis brought clarity—but also another major concern.
Her family simply could not afford the cost of specialized heart surgery.
After years of living with her symptoms, financial hardship once again threatened to delay the treatment Mafiya needed.
Hope Through Child Heart Foundation and IGL
Child Heart Foundation helped the family navigate Mafiya’s treatment journey and access the specialized cardiac care she required.
Through the CSR support of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the cost of Mafiya’s treatment was sponsored, removing the financial barrier that had stood between her and the care she needed.
In February 2026, Mafiya successfully underwent life-saving heart surgery at Marengo Asia Hospital.
For her family, it was a moment of immense relief after years of unanswered questions and worry.
A New Beginning at 13
Mafiya’s journey demonstrates why community-based screening, early identification, and timely referral are so important for children with possible congenital heart defects.
Symptoms such as poor growth and persistent rapid breathing can sometimes indicate an underlying health problem that requires further medical evaluation.
For Mafiya, an RBSK medical camp became the crucial link that connected her with Child Heart Foundation, specialized cardiac care, and ultimately the surgery she needed.
Today, her family looks toward her future with renewed hope and expresses heartfelt gratitude to RBSK, Child Heart Foundation, and Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) for supporting their daughter’s treatment journey.
For Mafiya, receiving heart surgery after years of waiting meant more than medical treatment.
It meant finally receiving the care she had needed for years.
It meant removing the financial barrier standing in her family’s way.
It meant giving her parents renewed hope.
And at 13, it meant beginning a healthier new chapter of her life.
Child Heart Foundation works to help underprivileged children with congenital heart defects access timely diagnosis, specialized pediatric cardiac care, life-saving treatment, and continued follow-up support.
