At 13, She Finally Received the Care She Needed

For Mafiya’s family, providing for seven children with limited financial resources was an everyday challenge.

Since toddlerhood, Mafiya had shown concerning signs. She was growing more slowly than expected and often experienced rapid breathing. Her family knew something was not right, but with limited resources and many responsibilities, accessing specialized medical care was extremely difficult.

During a medical screening conducted through the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), healthcare professionals identified Mafiya as a child with a suspected congenital heart defect (CHD).

She was referred to Child Heart Foundation (CHF) for further evaluation and specialized pediatric cardiac care.

For a family that had lived with uncertainty for years, the referral finally offered a path toward understanding what was affecting their daughter’s health.

An Echocardiogram Provided the Answer

Following the referral, Mafiya underwent an echocardiogram, which confirmed that she had a heart condition requiring surgical treatment.

The diagnosis brought clarity—but also another major concern.

Her family simply could not afford the cost of specialized heart surgery.

After years of living with her symptoms, financial hardship once again threatened to delay the treatment Mafiya needed.

Through the CSR support of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the cost of Mafiya’s treatment was sponsored, removing the financial barrier that had stood between her and the care she needed.

In February 2026, Mafiya successfully underwent life-saving heart surgery at Marengo Asia Hospital.

For her family, it was a moment of immense relief after years of unanswered questions and worry.
