At just 2 years and 4 months old, Manishka’s heart condition was discovered almost unexpectedly.
She had been referred from Kasturba Hospital after doctors detected a heart murmur during a medical examination. Unlike many children with significant heart conditions, Manishka did not show major alarming symptoms. Her parents had only occasionally noticed that she was breathing faster than usual.
Further cardiac evaluation, however, revealed that Manishka had Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a congenital heart defect in which a blood vessel that normally closes shortly after birth remains open.
The diagnosis showed why timely evaluation of a heart murmur can be important, even when a child appears otherwise well.
A Family Facing the Cost of Specialized Cardiac Care
After the diagnosis, Manishka needed appropriate pediatric cardiac treatment.
Her father works as nursing staff and earns approximately ₹1.08 lakh annually. With the family’s limited financial resources, arranging specialized cardiac treatment for their young daughter was challenging.
They wanted to ensure Manishka received the care she needed, but the financial burden of treatment was a major concern.
During this important stage of their journey, Child Heart Foundation (CHF) helped guide the family through the treatment process.
Support From ABB India Foundation
With the support of ABB India Foundation, Manishka was able to access the specialized cardiac intervention recommended for her condition.
The financial assistance helped remove a significant barrier for the family and enabled them to move forward with their daughter’s treatment.
On 24 July 2026, Manishka successfully underwent PDA Device Closure at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi.
The procedure provided timely treatment for her congenital heart defect and marked an important new beginning for the little girl and her family.
A Healthier Heart, A Brighter Childhood
With her PDA successfully treated, Manishka now has the opportunity to continue growing and experiencing childhood with a healthier heart.
Her journey highlights the importance of early detection and timely evaluation of heart murmurs in children. Sometimes, a congenital heart defect may be present even when there are few obvious symptoms.
For Manishka, a detected heart murmur led to further evaluation, an accurate diagnosis, and ultimately the cardiac treatment she needed.
Her parents expressed their heartfelt gratitude to ABB India Foundation for providing financial support, Child Heart Foundation for guiding them throughout the treatment journey, and the medical team for providing specialized care to their daughter.
For Manishka and her family, timely treatment meant more than closing a PDA.
It meant finding a heart defect before serious complications developed.
It meant receiving treatment despite financial challenges.
It meant giving her parents reassurance and renewed hope.
And it meant giving a little girl the opportunity to grow with a healthier heart.
Child Heart Foundation works to help underprivileged children with congenital heart defects access timely diagnosis, specialized pediatric cardiac care, life-saving treatment, and continued follow-up support.
