A Heart Full of Hope

Himani’s Heart Surgery Journey: From Repeated Illness to a Healthier Childhood

For the first four years of her life, Himani from Uttar Pradesh appeared to be a healthy and active child.

But when she turned four, her parents began noticing changes in her health. She started experiencing excessive sweating and frequent respiratory infections. What initially seemed like recurring childhood illnesses gradually became a cause for concern.

A local doctor suspected that Himani’s symptoms could be related to an underlying congenital heart defect (CHD) and advised her family to seek further cardiac evaluation.

The tests that followed revealed that Himani needed specialized heart treatment.

A Diagnosis That Changed Everything

Advanced medical evaluation at a district hospital in Noida confirmed that Himani had a perimembranous Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) along with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA).

VSD is an opening between the lower chambers of the heart, while PDA occurs when a blood vessel that normally closes after birth remains open.

Himani’s condition required surgical treatment, including VSD closure and PDA ligation.

For her parents, finally understanding the reason behind their daughter’s repeated health problems brought answers—but also a new challenge.

They needed to find a way to afford her specialized heart surgery.

A Family Searching for Support

The cost of pediatric cardiac surgery placed a significant financial burden on Himani’s family.

Determined to give their daughter the treatment she needed, the family approached Child Heart Foundation (CHF) for support.

Child Heart Foundation helped the family navigate Himani’s treatment journey and access the specialized cardiac care required for her condition.

With the CSR support of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), Himani was able to move forward with her life-saving treatment.

Successful Heart Surgery

On 10 November 2025, Himani successfully underwent heart surgery at Max Hospital for the correction of her congenital heart defects.

The procedure included the required VSD closure and PDA ligation, addressing the heart conditions that had been affecting her health.

For her family, the successful surgery brought immense relief after months of worry and uncertainty.

A Healthier Future for Himani

Today, Himani has recovered well and is moving forward with a healthier childhood.

The excessive sweating, recurring respiratory problems, medical investigations, and fear surrounding her diagnosis are now part of a journey that ultimately led her to the treatment she needed.

Himani’s story highlights why persistent or unusual symptoms in children should receive appropriate medical attention. Timely evaluation can help identify an underlying congenital heart defect and connect a child with specialized cardiac care.

Her family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Child Heart Foundation and Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) for helping make Himani’s treatment possible.

For Himani, successful heart surgery meant much more than correcting a VSD and PDA.

It meant leaving repeated health struggles behind.
It meant growing stronger with a healthier heart.
It meant giving her parents peace of mind.
And it meant giving a five-year-old the freedom to enjoy childhood again.

Child Heart Foundation works to help underprivileged children with congenital heart defects access timely diagnosis, specialized pediatric cardiac care, life-saving treatment, and continued follow-up support.
