Hayat’s Heart Surgery Journey: From TOF Repair to a Successful Second Heart Surgery
Little Hayat’s heart journey began immediately after birth.
Soon after she was born, doctors suspected that she might have a congenital heart defect (CHD). She was referred to Safdarjung Hospital, where an echocardiogram confirmed the presence of a heart condition.
At that stage, her family was advised to continue regular medical follow-ups every six months so that her heart condition could be closely monitored.
What followed was not just one treatment, but a journey of diagnosis, surgery, years of follow-up, and eventually a second cardiac intervention.
Finding Child Heart Foundation
During one of Hayat’s visits to Safdarjung Hospital, her family learned about Child Heart Foundation (CHF) through a hospital staff member.
Wanting to understand what support might be available for their daughter, the family searched for Child Heart Foundation online and visited CHF for consultation.
Hayat was first evaluated at CHF in April 2022.
Following a detailed assessment by the pediatric cardiac team, it was determined that she required specialized treatment for Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a complex congenital heart defect.
Her First Heart Surgery
In June 2022, Hayat successfully underwent Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) repair.
The surgery marked an important milestone for Hayat and her family, but her cardiac journey did not end there.
Following the procedure, Hayat continued to attend regular follow-up visits at Child Heart Foundation, where her recovery and heart function were closely monitored.
These continued evaluations became especially important as she grew older.
Regular Follow-Up Identified a New Concern
During a recent follow-up evaluation, Hayat’s echocardiogram revealed Tricuspid Valve Regurgitation and Right Ventricular Outflow Tract (RVOT) obstruction.
The findings meant that Hayat required another surgical intervention.
For her family, facing a second heart surgery was difficult. But because Hayat had remained under regular cardiac follow-up, the medical team was able to evaluate the changes in her heart and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
A Second Heart Surgery
After careful planning by the medical team, Hayat underwent her second cardiac surgery at the age of approximately 5 years and 8 months.
On 13 July 2026, she underwent a redo sternotomy with Tricuspid Valve repair at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi.
The surgery was completed successfully, and Hayat recovered well under expert medical supervision.
For her family, seeing their little girl successfully come through another major heart surgery brought tremendous relief.
Financial Support for Hayat’s Treatment
Hayat’s father works in customer support and earns approximately ₹15,000 per month. As the sole earning member supporting a family with three dependents, managing the financial burden of specialized pediatric cardiac treatment was extremely challenging.
Hayat’s second surgery was made possible with support from ABC Foundation, helping the family access the specialized treatment their daughter required.
Together with continued guidance and follow-up from Child Heart Foundation, this support helped Hayat move forward with an important stage of her cardiac treatment.
The Importance of Long-Term Follow-Up
Today, Hayat is stable and doing well.
She continues to attend regular follow-up visits at Child Heart Foundation, where her heart health and recovery are being closely monitored.
Hayat’s story is an important reminder that treatment for a congenital heart defect does not always end after the first surgery.
For some children, long-term cardiac follow-up is essential. Regular evaluations can help doctors monitor heart function, identify new concerns, and determine whether additional treatment may be required as a child grows.
From her first evaluation at CHF in 2022 to her second successful heart surgery in 2026, Hayat and her family have shown remarkable strength throughout a long cardiac journey.
Her first surgery gave her heart an important start.
Regular follow-up helped identify when her heart needed further care.
Her second surgery gave her another opportunity to move forward.
And today, her progress gives her family renewed hope for the future.
