For four-year-old MD Uzair from Uttar Pradesh, the journey with a congenital heart defect began when he was only two months old.
At such a young age, Uzair was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a complex congenital heart defect.
As he grew, the condition continued to affect his everyday life. He experienced cyanosis (bluish discoloration), fatigue during physical activity, and poor weight gain.
Medical evaluation indicated that Uzair required intracardiac repair to treat his heart defect.
But getting the surgery he needed would take much longer than his family expected.
A Long Wait for Heart Surgery
Uzair remained under regular follow-up at Satya Sai Hospital, Palwal, where his condition continued to be monitored.
However, due to a long waiting list, his surgery was delayed.
For his parents, the wait was difficult. They knew their child needed cardiac surgery while continuing to watch him live with symptoms of his heart condition.
The family later approached Yashoda Hospital, Ghaziabad, for further evaluation.
Considering the family’s financial circumstances and Uzair’s need for specialized treatment, his case was referred to Child Heart Foundation (CHF).

However, another unexpected medical challenge temporarily delayed his surgery.
Uzair developed acute hepatitis, and his cardiac treatment had to be postponed until he recovered sufficiently to undergo surgery safely.
His family continued to wait while his health was monitored.
Once Uzair recovered and received medical clearance, preparations for his long-awaited heart surgery resumed.
Successful Heart Surgery
On 16 August 2026, Uzair was admitted to Yashoda Hospital, Ghaziabad, for his cardiac surgery.
After years of waiting and an additional delay due to his temporary illness, Uzair finally underwent the required cardiac surgery successfully and without reported complications.
He responded well during his recovery and was subsequently discharged.
For his parents, this moment brought tremendous relief.
The treatment they had been waiting for since their son was a baby had finally been completed.
A New Hope for Uzair
Uzair’s journey shows how children with congenital heart defects can face barriers beyond the diagnosis itself.
